Establishment History

Back Ground History (period 1965 ~ 1974)

Indonesia 5 Year National Development Plan has established by Indonesian government since REPELITA I (1st April 1969~1974) and all stake holder committed to develop national Industrialization with theme "National Industrialization development to support Agriculture development". Align with this theme; the automobile industrialization is also the main national issue.

To response this above challenges, a few Association has established since this period. Starting in 1st August 1969, GAKINDO is established and continuing with the establishment of GAM at the end of the year 1969. Since 1971, AAPCOMI (GIAM) and PASMI have established. The last establishment in 1972 is PAABI.

Since REPELITA I, the automotive sector in Indonesia already has the association that concern for automobile manufacturer, for component and parts manufacturer, Motor Cycle and also Heavy Duty Vehicle. The industrial activities are more frequent and actively, since 1972 there are big collaboration strategic alliance activities among GAIKINDO and GAM to establish Automotive Federation in Indonesia.

By President Decree in automotive industrial National policy that stipulated imported completely built up (CBU) change to completely knock Down (CKD) and effectively since 1st January 1974. Almost of all world Automobile Manufacturers is starting to transfer technology producing Vehicle through establishment of Vehicle Assembly Plant.

In year 1975, the collaboration strategic alliances between two kind of association GAIKINDO and GAM that is agree to establish new association with the name GAAKINDO.

Starting from the Automotive Industrial national policy and the establishment of GAAKINDO is has an rise issue regarding to the technology transfer in Assembling Vehicle fields in Indonesia. Since this period there are a lot of discussion among the engineers in the automotives stake holder, the result of discussion is an needed establishment a "professional engineer association" that concern in automotive technology transfer.

Pioneering Period (1975~1977).

The initiative of the establishment professional engineer associations come from the actor from industrial side to response Automotive Industrialization Policy. They want to synergies the engineer that belongs on government, industry and academia to make a frame work scenario of automotive industrial development in Indonesia.

In year 1975, they conduct first meeting in GAAKINDO Secretariat at Salemba Street No.30, Centre Jakarta region and the result of the meeting is agreed that all association belongs in The Indonesian Automotive Federation to establish the "professional engineer association". This idea have strong supported from Industrial members.

The positive response from government for this initiative, the key note speech statement from Mr. Suhartoyo The Directorate General of Basic Metal Industry, Ministry of Industry, he mention that the government side want to create the counter part coming from professional association in capacity as technology, standard industry and human resource development resources.

Also positive response from the academia, especially from Mechanical Engineering Department, Bandung Institute of Technology, they agreed to support this initiative to promote this idea to Indonesian Engineer Association to establish as apart of them in automotive sector, as Society of Automotive Engineer independently.

To realize this initiative, the small teams that consist from all stake holders are established. The small team has 7 members, Mr. Mulyono Hadjosutono, Mr. Arisman, Mr. Ir. R.P. Napitupulu, Mr. Ir. Hirman Koesalamwardi, Mr. Ir. Hasiholan Sidabutar, and Mr. Hadi Topobroto PhD as Secretary General FO, GAAKINDO, GIAM and PASMI President with duty to prepare the establishment of SAE Indonesia.
