A rapid product development time is critical to the success of any company involved in designing, engineering, and manufacturing products. Reduced lead-time results in lower development costs and fresher products in the marketplace. Reducing lead-time is thus the single most important measure of system effectiveness in going from concept to market. Tools such as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma can improve the utilization efficiency and quality of a given product development process, but by themselves are insufficient to totally transform a current system to one with a competitive lead time. Traditional methods of shrinking lead-time, focus on reducing the waste from engineering changes and on achieving greater efficiency in the construction of manufacturing tooling. This seminar goes well beyond these traditional methods to take advantage of the math data in early product development. This leads to an integrated strategy of information flow from product concept through tool construction to validated product. By feeding forward specific information from the early stages of the product development process, downstream processes can get a head start on their process. Topics covered in this seminar include: what information to feed forward, in what order, and how to monitor information quality. Special emphasis is placed on product design through manufacturing engineering. These phases are usually not addressed in lead-time reduction strategies. By redesigning how information flows through the system, two important results are achieved: effect of engineering changes on lead-time is greatly reduced; parallel paths of the work flow are enabled for dramatic results.

This seminar will provide techniques to improve information flow between upstream and downstream processes within the product development process. The importance of restructuring the flow of math data for lead-time reduction will be demonstrated through case study examples and simulations. The parallel flow of data will be extended to other areas.

Benefits of Attending

By attending this seminar, you will be able to:

  • Reduce lead-time by restructuring the work flow via parallel work paths
  • Identify the flow of math data in the product development process
  • Identify opportunities to reduce lead-time via parallel paths
  • Structure the partial data release
  • Quantify the value of starting tool construction before design is formally released
Who Should Attend

Individuals involved in product and manufacturing engineering as well as managers of the product design process can benefit by attending this seminar. It is especially valuable and important for those who have a role in the math data generation of a part from concept to manufacturing. This includes engineers in automotive body structures, crashworthiness development, performance analysis, and manufacturing.
